Clash of the Titans

Let me begin by stating the obvious: this is not a movie that will win oscar nominations, this is also not a movie that has an intriguing plot that develops the wills and directions of it’s characters, but this is a movie that you can go and enjoy, as long as you don’t expect any of the aforementioned statements. The movie’s visual appeal is the driving force for a motivated movie go-er to even consider spending money to see this travesty of a modern interpretation of a classic.

Now, I could list all of the reasons why this movie was terrible. I could continue to point out every nuance that disrupted the films logical progression rendering the film almost unwatchable. Instead, I am going to talk about the positive aspects of the movie, considering anybody who goes to see this film expecting oscar caliber performances and thought provoking themes, obviously already has terrible judgement and wouldn’t be reading this review on such a fine website (wink wink).

As I already mentioned, the visual aspect of the movie is what draws the appeal for most people. The graphics for the most part were very well done. Hades, with his ability to transform and split into smaller winged creatures, was second only to the Kraken, which was the obvious crowning achievement of the film’s graphical expertise. The only failure, in the visual aspect, was Medusa. Medusa was not at all appealing. A lack of detail and cheesy graphics culminated into a poor representation of a villain that should have been just as important as the Kraken.

Another aspect of the movie that was well done was the dialogue, in some instances. There were some parts of the film where it almost seemed as if they knew the movie was bad and they were poking fun at it with obviously ridiculous dialogue. I do not remember specific moments where this occurred unfortunately, mostly because I have tried to keep this film from taking up space in my memory, but there is one aspect of the film that will always stay forever in the fondness of my recollections. Liam Neeson plays Zeus in the film and it is absolutely wonderful. I almost couldn’t write that line without laughing. My friend and I had a discussion over whether Liam Neeson had the proper ability to play a God. I believed he did, almost jokingly, while my friend believed he didn’t. He really hates Liam Neeson for some reason. Whether you like him or you don’t, Liam Neeson plays the role of Zeus well. You never fully develop a hatred or a love for the character considering his questionable actions within the story-line, which is what a good actor should do, and considering that my friend and I were having a similar discussion about the man himself, I can only applaud the casting director for picking the perfect person to play the role.

See this movie if you want. I am not going to recommend it considering it was terrible. Although, sometimes terrible movies are fun to see so you can laugh at them and feel superior to their elementary attempts at grandiosity.
